Alice Welland is a legal professional with extensive experience in international law and policy. Currently serving as Counsel at the Public International Law & Policy Group since February 2021, Alice has previously held academic positions, including Lecturer in International and European Law at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Lecturer and Researcher at Utrecht University. With a background that includes roles as Senior Research Associate and Assistant Coordinator, Alice has contributed significantly to research and education in international law, human rights, and legal skills. Academically, Alice holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from The University of Law, a Master of Laws in Public International Law from Utrecht University, and a Bachelor of Laws from The University of Manchester.

The Public International Law & Policy Group, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, operates as a non-profit, global pro bono law firm providing free legal assistance to its clients, which include governments, sub-state entities, and civil society groups worldwide. PILPG provides pro bono legal counsel to clients on peace negotiation, drafting of post-conflict constitutions, creation and operation of transitional justice mechanisms, and ways to strengthen the rule of law and effective institutions. Since 1995, we have worked with over 40 state and non-state parties and provided legal assistance to all major war crimes tribunals. We maintain close partnerships with 12 of the top 15 law firms and have over 700 alumni working in the fields of law, government, foreign policy, business, and social advocacy around the world.
