Duncan started their career at Deloitte in 2004, serving as Manager, Enterprise Risk Services until September 2011. Additionally, they briefly worked at Deloitte NZ as an ERS Manager in 2008.

Duncan Rainey FCA began their education journey at Imperial College London in 1998, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Duncan successfully completed their undergraduate studies in 2001. In 2003, Duncan furthered their education by enrolling in Nottingham University Business School. Duncan pursued a Master of Science degree in International Business and completed their studies in 2004. Following their master's degree, Duncan went on to join the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 2004, where they pursued the ACA qualification. Duncan dedicated three years to this program, successfully graduating in 2007.
