Gerardo Toledo

Founding Advisor at Purpose Health

Gerardo Toledo is the Founding Advisor at Purpose Health. Prior to that, they were the Vice President Collaborations at Indigo from June 2014 to March 2017. Gerardo was responsible for technical due diligences with external licensing and business opportunities as well as coordination with external academic partners for advancing microbial technologies. From September 2006 to June 2014, they were the Senior Director, Microbial Discovery, Agricultural Microorganisms at Synthetic Genomics where they designed, implemented and managed a program for the discovery, isolation and characterization of plant-associated microorganisms including rhizosphere- and endosphere- associated bacteria and fungi using high throughput approaches. Gerardo also participated in the characterization of the plant microbiome using next generation sequencing in order to elucidate plant community differences in response to plants or environmental conditions. Gerardo was a member of the program Research Steering Committee with a major agricultural partner to establish quarterly and yearly goals, milestones and overall strategy.

Gerardo Toledo has a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from UC San Diego, a Masters of Science in Marine Sciences from Instituto Politécnico Nacional, and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur.
