Marcus Cortez

Marcus Cortez is currently the Director of Business Operations at Pursuit. Prior to this, they served as the Associate Director of Academic Operations and Strategy at Achievement First from July 2018 to March 2022. Marcus was also the Design Principal at Education Elements from August 2016 to July 2018, and the Project Specialist at ASHLIN Management Group from August 2015 to August 2016. Marcus began their career as a middle school teacher with Teach For America in June 2011 and served in that role for four years before moving into educational administration. Marcus is a highly experienced and respected leader in the education field, known for their innovative approaches to problem-solving and their dedication to ensuring equity for all students. Marcus is a strong advocate for education reform and has worked tirelessly to improve educational outcomes for students from all backgrounds.

Marcus Cortez's educational career began with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) from Georgetown University, where they studied international affairs with a focus on foreign policy and policy processes. Marcus then continued their education with a Masters of Education (M.Ed) from Arizona State University in secondary education and teaching.

They are on a team with Will Kenney - VP, Strategy & Operations, Pursuit Benefit Corp., Jay Jayabose - General Manager, and Victoria Liu - Director of Institutional Giving & Relations. Marcus Cortez reports to Jukay Hsu, Co-Founder & CEO.
