Jo Vandesompele is a distinguished professor in Functional Cancer Genomics and Applied Bioinformatics at Ghent University, focusing on academic research and co-supervising the OncoRNALab. Vandesompele is a co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of both pxlence, a medical technology company specializing in PCR assays, and InActiv Blue, which innovates biomaterial preservation solutions. Additionally, Vandesompele co-founded the DIGPCR center at Ghent University, leading digital PCR research and training. With a background in founding Biogazelle, a specialized contract research organization, and serving as chairman of the Cancer Research Institute Ghent, Vandesompele has significantly contributed to the fields of biomarker discovery and cancer research. Vandesompele holds a PhD in Medical Genetics and a Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering from Ghent University, complemented by business education from Vlerick Business School.
