Haoran Liao

Haoran Liao is a Senior Research Scientist at Q-CTRL, specializing in Quantum Error Correction, Superconducting Device Physics, and Quantum Algorithms since January 2024. Prior to this role, Liao was a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley from August 2018 to December 2023, focusing on Quantum Machine Learning, Open-system Dynamics, Superconducting Qubits, Tensor Networks, Quantum Measurement and Control, Quantum Algorithms, and Quantum Error Correction, while also serving as a Graduate Student Instructor in Statistical Mechanics and applying Bayesian methods and Machine Learning in Physics. Liao gained experience as a Quantum Research Intern at IBM from February 2023 to August 2023, where the work involved Quantum Error Mitigation, suppression techniques, characterization, and superconducting qubits. Haoran Liao earned a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of California, Berkeley in 2023 and holds a B.Sc. with Honours in Mathematics and Physics from McGill University, completed in 2018.
