James Smith, Ph.D., currently serves as the Director of HPC Engineering at Qognitive, leading efforts in collaboration with IBM's Quantum Computing team to enhance model performance on quantum hardware. Previously, at Lucata, James developed and optimized a multithreaded version of the GraphBLAS library for proprietary hardware. As a Flatiron Research Fellow at the Simons Foundation, research focused on novel numerical methods in computational quantum physics. During a PhD tenure at the University of Colorado Boulder, James advanced algorithms to predict electronic properties for various systems. Additional experience includes roles at JILA, Davidson College, and internships focusing on quantum chemistry and dye-sensitized solar cells. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder and a BS in Chemistry from Davidson College.
