Gerard Williams III

SVP, Engineering at Qualcomm

Gerard Williams III is the SVP of Engineering at Qualcomm. Gerard has over 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, and has been involved in the development of many processors, including the ARM1020E, ARM926EJ-S, ARM968, ARM1026EJ-S, Cortex-A8, and Cortex-A15.

Williams began their career at ARM in 1998 as a Fellow. In this role, they worked on processor architecture, micro-architecture, verification, performance modeling, and implementation. Gerard was involved in the development of several processors, including the ARM1020E, ARM926EJ-S, and ARM1026EJ-S. Gerard also served as the technical lead for the memory system on the Cortex-A8 processor.

In 2010, Williams left ARM to join Apple as a Senior Director in Platform Architecture. In this role, they served as the chief architect for all Apple CPU and SOC development. Gerard was responsible for leading the development of several processors, including the Cyclone, Typhoon, Twister, Hurricane, Monsoon, Vortex, Lightning, and Firestorm. Gerard also served as the chief architect for the M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra MAC hardware platforms.

In 2019, Williams left Apple to start their own company, NUVIA Inc. Gerard currently serves as the CEO, President, and Founder of NUVIA Inc.

Gerard Williams III has a MSEE from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a BSE (Honors) from Arkansas State University in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science.
