Matthias Büchner

Matthias Büchner, PhD, currently serves as the Quantitative Trading Director at Qube Research & Technologies, focusing on oil and refined products since August 2025. Previously, Matthias held various positions at Trafigura, including Trader on the Gasoline Desk from June 2021 to July 2025, and served as a Gasoline Trading Analyst, specializing in gasoline paper swap flow trading and quantitative market analysis. Before Trafigura, Matthias worked as a Research Consultant at Invesco Ltd. and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, where research centered on asset pricing and machine learning in investment management. Additional experience includes internships at Deutsche Bank and EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, along with early research endeavors in self-driving vehicles at FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik. Matthias holds an MSc in Financial Mathematics from UCL, a PhD in Finance & Econometrics from the University of Warwick, and additional qualifications from Yale School of Management and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
