Matthew Knoll has a diverse work experience in the field of technology and engineering. Matthew is currently serving as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and founder at Quilt, a company focused on developing advanced and sleek heat pumps for home electrification. Prior to this, Matthew worked at X, the moonshot factory, where they held the position of Head of Hardware & System SW on Tidal. Matthew was responsible for leading and managing an interdisciplinary team of hardware and software engineers to build AI-powered hardware and systems for sustainable oceans.

Before their role at X, Matthew worked at Google, where they had two different roles. Firstly, they were the Hardware Engineering Manager and co-founder of a robotics project within Area 120, Google's internal startup incubator. Matthew successfully led a team of mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing and program management professionals to bring a new robotics product to the market. Additionally, they managed overseas high-volume manufacturing and development partners. Secondly, Matthew served as a Senior Mechanical Engineer for Google[x] Project Loon, where they led cross-functional development on aerospace systems for balloon-powered internet access.

Prior to their tenure at Google, Matthew worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Rethink Robotics and as a Mechanical Engineer at Teradyne. Matthew also had a stint at the Air Force Research Laboratory as a Space Scholar, participating in research projects.

Matthew began their career as a Student Researcher at Boston University, where they contributed to the design and development of a satellite for conducting scientific research in space physics, in collaboration with the B.U. College of Engineering, Center for Space Physics, and the Air Force Research Lab.

Matthew Knoll's education history starts with their attendance at Accelerated Learning Lab from 2002 to 2006, where they completed their high school education. Following that, they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace Engineering at Boston University, attending from 2006 to 2010. Matthew then went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder, where they studied from 2010 to 2014. Alongside their formal education, Matthew also obtained an Engineering Management Certificate from the University of Colorado Boulder, although the specific timing of this certification is not provided.
