Joshua Steer

Founder/CEO at Radii Devices

Joshua Steer is the founder and CEO of Radii Devices, a company that develops intelligent software for faster and more personalized fitting of external medical devices. Joshua has been in this role since March 2019. At the University of Southampton, Joshua serves as a visiting research fellow, contributing to academic journal articles and providing guest lectures for various courses related to entrepreneurship, amputation, and prosthetic rehabilitation. Joshua has also held the role of RAEng Enterprise Fellow from March 2019 to February 2020, during which they received mentoring and learned commercial skills to build Radii Devices. Prior to that, Joshua was a PhD student at the university, working on the development and application of a computational model for the residual limb-prosthetic socket system. Joshua also served as a research assistant, creating software and analysis tools using Python to analyze clinical practice. In addition, Joshua created an open-source Python package called ampscan, aimed at improving evidence-based clinical practice in prosthetics and orthotics. Joshua developed this package during their PhD and continues to maintain it with the University of Southampton. Before their PhD, Joshua was a research intern at the University of Southampton, working on the development of a statistical shape model for characterizing residual limb shape in transtibial amputees.

Joshua Steer's education history begins in 2012 when they enrolled at the University of Southampton for their Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joshua completed this program in 2015.

Afterwards, Joshua pursued further education by attending the same university for their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering. Joshua embarked on this research-based program in 2015 and successfully completed it in 2019.
