Jean-Maurice Forbes has a diverse range of work experience. Jean-Maurice is currently working as a Digital Campaign Manager at Rainforest Action Network. Prior to this, they worked as a Consultant at Resonance Campaigns. In 2020, they founded and operated their own independent writing firm called The Black-Up Writer, where they specialize in essays on Black political thought and fiction works. Jean-Maurice also owns The Black-Up Apothecary, which was established in 2021. Jean-Maurice previously worked as a Lead Digital Strategist at The Movement for Black Lives from 2020 to 2022. Jean-Maurice has also held various roles at Indivisible Project, including Senior Digital Strategy Associate, Communications Associate, and Regional Political Coordinator. Before that, they served as the Youth Vote Director at NextGen Climate in 2016. Jean-Maurice has experience in providing professional and accounting services as the owner of J Forbes Consulting from 2014 to 2016. Jean-Maurice also worked as a Spring Trainer at Organizing for Action in 2014 and as a Field Organizer for Lynwood Lewis for State Senate at the Democratic Party of Virginia in 2013.
Jean-Maurice Forbes has a diverse education history. Jean-Maurice first attended Beach High School from 2004 to 2008, where they obtained a College Preparatory Diploma through their College/University Preparatory and Advanced High School/Secondary Diploma Program. In 2008, they enrolled in Savannah State University, studying Political Science, International & Comparative Politics. Jean-Maurice also pursued a minor in Business Administration & French. This educational journey continued until 2012, when they earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Savannah State University. During their time at university, in 2012, Forbes attended the Steve Beko Cultural Institute, focusing on International Politics. In 2013, they briefly attended the University of Cape Coast, specializing in Pan-African Studies with a focus on Pan-Africanism and Nationalist Movements. Additionally, Jean-Maurice Forbes holds a certification in Ethics and Values in Counseling the LGBTQQIA Population, obtained from the National Board of Certified Counselors, Georgia Southern University.
