Nick Barnes

Nick is a Senior Associate in the Child Care Department based in York.

Nick specialises in complex care and child law cases with an extensive and growing regional practice in North Yorkshire and Teesside. Primarily advising professional Children’s Guardian’s and providing representation to children, Nick also accepts instructions and referrals for parents and connected family members in the most challenging and difficult proceedings. Nick undertakes the vast majority of his advocacy before the Family Court and has been a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel for a number of years.

Nick has accepted instructions in child law proceedings including Care, Adoption, Special Guardianship and litigation between parents for over 25 years.Previously a Partner in a well-respected practice in Cambridge, Nick was the only practitioner in the Cambridge area with a ranking in the leading guide The Legal 500 for his expertise in care proceedings. Nick provided consultancy advice to BBC’s Panorama on a high profile case involving alleged non accidental injury to a child and has provided comment on topical issues of interest in this specialist area of law to the national media. Cases are often accepted through recommendation and referral from other lawyers and professionals.
