Rapid City Medical Center has a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician position available in our busy medical laboratory. Performs technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and immunology. Reports test results following clinic protocols, ensures quality control in collecting specimens, maintains equipment and complies with all policies and OSHA regulations. Performs phlebotomy procedures if needed.
Position does require occasional early evenings, weekends and holidays (eligible for differential pay).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services.
Provides specialized expertise and testing in microbiology, urinalysis, serology, hematology, immunohematology, hemostasis, and chemistry while practicing infectious disease safety.
Ensures sample integrity.
Evaluates, judges and interprets test results and ensures accuracy.
Accepts and processes samples for on-site testing or forwards to contracted reference laboratories.
Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results.
Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments.
Ensures quality control and functionality of instruments.
Completes quality assurance monitor in hematology, chemistry, and hemostasis.
Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions.
Provides customer service for questions directed at the laboratory.
Answers questions from patient providers regarding test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques.
Trains new employees and phlebotomy students.
Participates in continuing education programs.
Performs phlebotomy on patients when needed.
Monitors, maintains, orders and stocks laboratory supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
EDUCATION: An Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology. or related field and (1) year of clinical laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-or- Must be a High school graduate or equivalent and graduated from an HHS-approved lab training program.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess certification as Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology).
-or- Possess certification by an HHS-approved lab training program.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Moves among many outpatient and inpatient settings. Exposure to communicable diseases, sharp instruments, bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Must be able to walk to various settings and to bend and reach and to stand or walk for varied periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies and equipment and help with patient transport and transfer. Occasional stress in dealing with priorities.
