Peter Muhoro has extensive work experience in the energy industry, with a focus on strategy, technology, and innovation. Peter is currently serving as the Chief Strategy, Technology, and Innovation Officer at Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and as the Executive Vice President and General Manager at Rappahannock Electric Communications. Prior to these roles, they held positions such as Vice President, Strategic Industry Research and Analysis at NRUCFC, Chief Strategy Officer at Pedernales Electric Cooperative, and Advisor at NRECA. Peter also has experience in program management, business development, and research in organizations such as American Physical Society, The Idea Link, University of Michigan, Brookhaven National Laboratory/University of Zambia, and Hampton University.
Peter Muhoro has a strong educational background in physics and applied physics. Peter earned their Ph.D. in Applied Physics with a focus on Energy Policy from the University of Michigan, where they studied from 2007 to 2010. Prior to their doctoral studies, they obtained an M.Sc. in Applied Physics with a specialization in Optics from the same institution, graduating in 2007. Earlier in their academic journey, Peter attended Hampton University from 1999 to 2005, where they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics.
In addition to their academic achievements, Peter Muhoro obtained a certification as a member of the Forbes Technology Council in December 2020.

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative
REC is a member-owned utility that provides electric service to nearly 170,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. The Cooperative was formed in 1980 after the consolidation of two cooperatives, Virginia Electric Cooperative in Bowling Green and Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative in Culpeper. REC's general office is in Spotsylvania County. REC operates and maintains more than 17,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The Cooperative serves a variety of residential, commercial and industrial accounts. REC provides the electricity for such familiar names as Kings Dominion Amusement Park, Equinix, Inc., Merillat Industries, General Electric, Axalta, Kraft Foods Group, Inc. and Southeastern Container, Inc. The Cooperative is guided by a board of directors, also member-owners of REC, and who are elected by REC's other members during the annual meeting. Directors serve three-year terms.
