Blanca Gomez

Research Associate II at RAPT Therapeutics

Blanca Gomez began their work experience as an Undergraduate Researcher in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Davis in September 2015. In this role, they focused on the relationship between fluorescent molecules and their photophysical properties, conducting organic synthesis, purification methods, and spectroscopy characterization. Blanca then continued their research at UC Davis as a Graduate Student Researcher from September 2017 to July 2019, under the mentorship of Annaliese K. Franz. Blanca'swork involved the design, synthesis, and bioactivity assessment of novel hydroxamic acids as selective HDAC inhibitors. Blanca utilized organic synthesis techniques, purification methods, and spectroscopy for characterization. During this time, Blanca also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, teaching general and organic chemistry discussions and labs to students ranging from freshmen to seniors. Blanca led discussions and laboratory sections, proctored and graded exams, and provided assistance during office hours.

Blanca's next position was at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases at UCSF, where they worked as a Staff Research Associate II from August 2019 to June 2020. Finally, they joined RAPT Therapeutics in June 2020 as a Research Associate I and later transitioned to the role of Research Associate II in January 2022. No end dates are given for their positions at RAPT Therapeutics, indicating that they may still be employed there.

Blanca Gomez obtained a Master's degree in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of California, Davis from 2017 to 2019. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor's degree with Departmental Highest Honors in the same field from the same university, studying from 2014 to 2017.
