Deborah L. Birx is a Senior Advisor at Real Time Medical Systems. Deborah previously served as the White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator from March 2020 to January 2021. Prior to that, they were the Ambassador at Large and U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator for the U.S. Department of State from April 2014 to January 2021, where they led and oversaw implementation of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the largest commitment by any nation to combat a single disease in history. From January 2005 to February 2021, they also served as the Director of the Division of Global HIV/AIDS at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and as a Detailee to State Dept and WH and Special Advisor. Before that, they were the Director of the U.S. Military HIV Research Program at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research from January 1989 to December 2005, and an Investigator - Cellular Immunology at National Institutes of Health from January 1986 to December 1989.

Dr. Deborah L. Birx studied chemistry and mathematics at Houghton University, where they graduated summa cum laude with their BS. Deborah then attended Penn State College of Medicine to earn their MD. After completing their medical degree, Dr. Birx completed their residency in internal medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Deborah then went on to complete fellowships in allergy and immunology at the National Institutes of Health and in clinical laboratory immunology at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. Dr. Birx is certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology in both allergy and clinical immunology, and by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine.
