Karen McElwain

Software Design Verification Manager at The Realtime Group

Karen McElwain has a diverse work experience spanning several roles in software design, verification, and project management. Karen started their career in 1986 at Siemens Information Systems Ltd as a Senior Member of Technical Staff and Software Development Project Lead. After that, they worked at DSC Communications as a Software Development & Test Project Manager, where they managed a team performing interoperability and speech quality testing of VoIP equipment and maintained the software development environment.

In 2000, Karen joined Xalted Networks as a Senior Project Manager, where they provided project management and technical mentoring for System Test, Software Tools, and Configuration Management teams. Their contributions included identifying necessary test metrics to track progress.

From 2003 to 2005, they worked at Nokia Mobile Phones as a Test & Test Process Manager, responsible for implementing test process improvements and test automation for visual media testing on mobile phone handsets. Karen also consolidated test report layouts from multiple projects, reducing data errors by 90%.

Karen then joined The Realtime Group as a Software Design Verification Manager, where they served as a Senior Verification & Validation Test Engineer & Project Manager. Their role involved project management, generating and executing software test project plans for FDA regulatory submissions for medical devices.

In 2023, Karen retired from their work at Me No Work, marking the end of their professional career.

Karen McElwain has a B.Sc (CS) degree in Computer Science. Additionally, they hold three certifications: Project Management Professional from the Project Management Institute, obtained in August 2005; Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence from the American Society for Quality, obtained in March 2003; and Certified Software Quality Engineer, also from the American Society for Quality, obtained in February 2002.
