Austin Hou has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. In 2013, they worked as a Student Researcher and Electrical Engineer at the Institute for Systems Research. From 2016 to 2016, Austin served as a Student Researcher and Data Scientist at the SETI Institute, where they analyzed a large spectrogram database using Hadoop and Spark. In 2017, they took on the role of Designer at the Greater Rincon Hill Community Benefit District, working with a student team to improve public spaces in San Francisco. Austin also worked as a Systems and Protocol Design specialist at Stanford Children's Health | Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, where they led a team in designing protocols for complicated deliveries. In the same year, they co-founded Mavencook and served as the Chief Product Officer, overseeing product design and vision. Austin's entrepreneurial ventures continued with the founding of Planetarium Labs in 2018, focusing on ML systems for scientific research and development. Austin also pursued personal projects involving reactive art and creative technology during this time. In 2019, Austin joined Open as a Designer before moving on to found Recurrent Labs [Currents.fm], which is their current position. In 2021, they founded the Currents Foundation.
Austin Hou obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Physics and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Maryland, where they studied from 2011 to 2015. Austin later pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Stanford University, attending from 2015 to 2018.
