Liz Stephens

Liz Stephens is a Professor in Climate Risks and Resilience at the University of Reading, where Liz leads international and interdisciplinary teams in research focused on hydrometeorological forecasting science and decision-making. Liz is also the Principal Investigator of the £2M FATHUM project, aiming to support Forecast based Financing with world-leading science and social science. In addition, Liz has held positions such as Research Fellow, Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, Science Lead at the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford. With a background in flood risk consultancy and technical analysis, Liz's expertise spans from flood modeling to communicating probabilistic weather forecasts to the public.

The Climate Centre’s mission is to help the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and its partners reduce the impacts of climate change and extreme-weather events on vulnerable people. A core objective is to make the best global scientific insights operable at the local level.
