John Karczewski

Senior Software Engineer at Red Games

John Karczewski has worked in the software engineering field since 2008. In that time, they have held roles at Red Games Co. (2021), Lost Boys Interactive (2020), Gear Learning (2017-2020), Learning Games Network (2011-2017), Volition, Inc. (THQ) (2010-2009) and Zebra Technologies (2008). At Gear Learning, they were the Technical Lead for MedSmart, a 2D side-scrolling adventure game, and maintained cross platform core libraries and tools used by all Gear titles. At Learning Games Network, they were the Project Lead for the real-time multiplayer strategy iPad game EcoNauts and Technical Lead for Fair Play, a 3D point-and-click narrative driven adventure game. At Volition, Inc. (THQ), they were the Associate Programmer III for Saints Row: The Third, where they worked closely with design to implement and iterate five core missions, was responsible for the implementation of critical path, and developed five of the game’s pivotal boss encounters. As a Game UI Programming Intern for Red Faction: Armageddon, they worked with artists to integrate major HUD features, developed a system for blurring out entire screens as well as individual UI elements, and implemented and improved features of in-house UI development tool. At Zebra Technologies, they developed a printer status tool to be included in a project for a multi-billion dollar global electronics manufacturing services provider, created custom printer firmware for FedEx Europe, and automated the in-house testing suite with customizable macro scripts.

John Karczewski attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2007 to 2009, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Prior to that, they attended the College of Lake County from 2005 to 2007, where they earned a Transfer in Computer Science.
