Per Børstad has a diverse range of work experience spanning over several industries. Per began their career as a Manager at Fleischer & Co in 1994 and worked there until 2000. Per then served as a Superintendent at F.H. Lorentzen from January to June 2000, before moving on to Høegh Fleet Services where they held the same position from 2000 to 2007. Following this, Per served as Sales Director at VIA Travel from November 2007 to May 2009. Per then transitioned into a role as a Senior Consultant at Det Norske Veritas from June 2009 to February 2011. Per subsequently worked as a Technical Superintendent at Nordic Tankers A/S from February 2011 to January 2012. Per then joined Gram Car Carriers as a Technical Manager, where their responsibilities included ensuring the high standard and availability of their vessels as well as conducting inspections. Per then took on the role of Chief Engineer at Redningsselskapet from January 2014 onwards. In May 2014, they also became the Business Owner of Børstad Marine Consulting. Finally, Per has been serving as the Area Sales Manager at Frydenbø Marine Services since June 2014.

Per Børstad has a diverse educational background in the maritime and engineering fields. In 1975, they attended Ås ungdomskole. Then, from 1978 to 1979, they studied mechanics at Egge vid. Skole. Following this, from 1979 to 1982, they pursued a maritime engineering program at Croftholem Vid. Sk, where they obtained VK1 and VK2 qualifications. In 1988, Per enrolled at the University of South-Eastern Norway, where they completed a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in maritime engineering from 1988 to 1990. After several years, in 2014, they attended Norsk Yrkesdykkerskole briefly to become a commercial diver. Additionally, in December 2013, Per obtained an Engine Officer Class 1 certification from Sjøfartsdirektoratet.
