Rachel Kerner began their professional career in 2008 as a Furniture Finisher for Halldoor Woodworking. In 2009, they became the Rentals Department Manager/Seamstress for the Chicago Costume Company. In 2012, they started their own business, Fabricninja Designs. In 2014, they worked as a Technical Recruiter for CyberSearch and then as a Certified Baker Trainer for Panera Bread. In 2017, they were a Jr Application Developer for onPeak and a Student at Dev Bootcamp. Lastly, in 2019, they became a Senior Software Engineer for RedShelf.

Rachel Kerner attended Bloomington High School from 1998 to 2002, graduating with a High School Diploma. Rachel then attended Illinois Wesleyan University from 2002 to 2007, where they earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Technical Theatre/Theatre Design and Technology. In 2017, they attended Dev Bootcamp for Web Development. In 2019, they obtained a py4e101x: Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python) certificate from edX, and in 2022 they obtained a Preventing Discrimination & Harassment: IL Employees V4 .01 certificate from Traliant.
