Jo Fitzsimmons has worked in the field of youth support and counselling for over 15 years. jo began their career as a Gap Year Coordinator with Oasis Charitable Trust, before moving on to Frontier Youth Trust as National Youth Work Advisor. In 2010, they joined This Way Up Youth Project as Project Manager Team Lead.
In 2014, Jo moved to Youthscape, where they took on the role of self harm uk Manager. In this role, they oversaw an online counselling service called alumina, which supported young people with self harm behaviour. Jo recruited and trained a team of counsellors, managed project budgets and funding reports, and trained teachers, youth workers and professionals to support young people with poor mental health. jo also wrote and developed a 6-session course, and developed the risk assessment and referral process.
In 2016, Jo moved to their current role at Redthread, where they work with vulnerable young people at risk of involvement in the criminal justice system. jo liaises with agencies such as the CJS, YOS and mental health services to support the holistic wellbeing of young people and reduce youth offending.
