Cathryn Symons has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Cathryn began their career as a Systems Analyst at Fletcher Challenge Oil & Gas Inc. in 1994 and later worked as a Project Manager at Air New Zealand. Cathryn then joined TUI UK Ltd and First Choice as a Project Manager, managing various projects until 2006. Cathryn then worked at Lloyd's of London as a Project Manager for a year before joining Cambridge Assessment as a Programme Manager. In 2009, they pursued higher education and completed an MSc in Renewable Energy in the Built Environment from the Centre for Alternative Technology. Cathryn then transitioned to the role of IT Director at CDP and served there for nine years until 2020. Recently, Cathryn has held the position of Director of Technology and Transformation at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College from 2021 to 2023. Currently, they work as the Director of Technology at Refuge.

Cathryn completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Victoria University of Wellington, where they studied from 1985 to 1989.

In 1994 and 1995, they pursued a Diploma in Business Administration (DipBusAdmin) with a focus on Management from Massey University.

From 2002 to 2006, they obtained an Undergraduate College Diploma in Earth Science from Birkbeck, University of London.

Later, in 2009 to 2011, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Renewable Energy in the Built Environment from the University of East London.

As for additional certifications, Cathryn obtained a Foundation Certificate in Information Security Management Principles from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in November 2021.

Cathryn also holds an Applied Data Science with Python Specialization certification from Coursera, achieved in September 2020.

Cathryn completed the Managing Successful Programmes Foundation Examination and became a Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner through APMG-International in March and January 2011, respectively.

Furthermore, they obtained a Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management from ISEB in November 2004.

Lastly, Cathryn is a Certified ScrumMaster, certified by Scrum Alliance, although the month and year of certification are not provided.
