Tejasvi Desai has a diverse range of work experience in the field of biomedical engineering and medical devices. They started their career as a Co-Founder & CTO at Relavo, a medical device venture focused on reducing infection risk in at-home peritoneal dialysis treatment. Tejasvi led product development for a patent-pending medical device.
Later, Tejasvi worked as an Engineering Project Manager at the Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation & Design. In this role, they led an undergraduate engineering design team to improve patient outcomes in endoscopic skull base reconstruction. They also collaborated with medical professionals and engineering faculty and completed a clinical immersion at Johns Hopkins Hospital to develop need statements.
As the President of the JHU Chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society, Tejasvi organized various events to promote academic and professional development within the biomedical engineering community. They also managed a mentoring program for over 200 undergraduate students, coordinating mentor-mentee matching and monthly programming.
Tejasvi gained further industry experience as a Product Management & Risk Management Intern at Tidepool, where they facilitated discussions with various stakeholders to define product requirements for Class II Software as a Medical Device. They also performed risk analysis and developed a process to prioritize risk mitigations based on hazardous situations.
Tejasvi has also worked as a Teaching Assistant at The Johns Hopkins University and as a Sensor Operations Engineering Intern at Medtronic. In their role at Medtronic, they applied lean six sigma DMAIC methodology to characterize and identify risks of a glucose sensor test system, recommending process controls to increase sensor yield and profit.
During their time as a Noy Laboratory Summer Research Intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Tejasvi captured the dynamics of the dynamin protein using a high-speed atomic force microscope (HS-AFM) and analyzed the data using ImageJ and IgorPro.
Tejasvi also has experience in consulting, having worked as a Business Analyst with Students Consulting for Nonprofit Organizations. They provided pro bono consultation to Baltimore non-profits, focusing on business strategy, marketing, and finance.
Finally, Tejasvi gained research experience as a Niyogi Laboratory Summer Research Intern at the University of California, Berkeley, where they identified Arabidopsis plant mutants for a PhD candidate's project on non-photosynthetic quenching, performing various laboratory techniques such as PCR and gel electrophoresis.
Tejasvi Desai completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University from 2017 to 2021. Moving forward, Tejasvi pursued a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) degree in Biomedical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, starting in 2020 and expected to finish in 2021.
