Monique Wekking has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Monique is currently the Co-founder & CCO of Relement, a Dutch company that specializes in renewable chemistry and the production of bio-based aromatics. Prior to this, Monique worked at TNO as a Senior Business Developer in the sustainable chemical industry, where they focused on lead generation, customer acquisition, and setting up consortia for research projects. Monique also held the role of Business Developer in the biobased economy at TNO, where they established industrial consortia for projects on topics such as algae biorefinery and waste stream valorization. In addition, Monique served as the Program Manager for Sugars/furans to bio-aromatics at Biorizon, a shared research center focused on bio-aromatics. Monique represented Dutch TO2-institutons as the Secretary of the Applied Research Institute at ChemistryNL, connecting SMEs, knowledge institutes, and public stakeholders in the chemical sector. Monique began their career as an Innovation Consultant at Syntens, advising Dutch SMEs in the fields of chemistry and the biobased economy. Monique also took a sabbatical leave to travel through Central America. Monique's earlier roles include Managing Director of Bond Textile Research and Researcher at James BV.
Monique Wekking completed their Propedeuse in Food Science and Technology at Wageningen University & Research in 1997. From 1997 to 2002, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam. In 2002, they briefly studied Organic Chemistry at the University of New South Wales, Australia, although no degree was specified for this period.
