Mark Atterton

Regional Director, Africa And Asia at Relief International

Mark Atterton has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Mark is currently serving as the Regional Director - Africa and Asia for Relief International since May 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a University Lecturer - DRR and Humanitarian Response at Coventry University starting from November 2021. Mark also held positions at Reall as the Commercial Director from January 2019 to May 2022, and as the Director of Corporate Planning & Strategy from January 2019 to March 2021. Mark Atterton also worked at Oxfam as the Head of Programme Portfolio Oversight and Development from February 2018 to January 2019, and at Oxfam International as the Country Director Ethiopia from September 2016 to February 2018. Mark has also worked at Pacific Community-SPC as the Director Human Rights from September 2014 to September 2016, at CAFOD as the Head of Region Southern Africa from June 2009 to September 2014, at Cord as the Head of Africa Programmes from October 2005 to June 2009, at AQ as a Team Leader from 2003 to 2005, and at UNEP-WCMC as an Environmental Research Assistant from September 1998 to September 1999.

Mark Atterton completed their education at several institutions. Mark attended Halliford School from 1989 to 1996 but did not obtain a degree or study a specific field. Mark then enrolled at Coventry University from 1996 to 2000, where they pursued a degree in Geography with a focus on Development Economics and International Development. After that, they attended the University of Birmingham from 2001 to 2003, where they earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Poverty Reduction and Development Management. In 2019, they pursued a Postgraduate Award in Business Administration at the University of Warwick - Warwick Business School, completing it in 2020.
