Jay Ginsberg graduated from Thomas Jefferson University with his MD in 1977. Following an internal medicine residency, he completed a fellowship in nephrology at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University in 1982. He then began a nephrology practice in Southeastern Connecticut, which is now the most respected group of kidney specialists in the area. He has directed the group’s growth to its current size of 7 providers. Dr. Ginsberg as served as chairman of the department of Nephrology at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, CT and Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT. In addition, he has been medical director of two dialysis units which he has helped grow from a population of 30 patients to over 200. These facilities have active programs of in-center hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis. In 2012 Dr. Ginsberg earned a Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
Dr. Ginsberg joined Renalogic as Chief Medical Officer in 2012 and has been instrumental in developing the algorithms to identify undiagnosed renal patients and protocols to help prevent progression of renal disease.
Dr. Ginsberg is well known in the nephrology community as an expert in quality improvement and patient advocacy. He has held several leadership roles within the Network system, which is a group of government contractors dedicated to improving the lives of kidney patients. Among other positions he has served as Chairperson of the Medical Review Board of the Network of New England, Chairperson of the Medical Advisory Council to the National Forum of Networks, Chairperson of the Forum of Networks Quality Meetings and Vice-President of the Network of New England.
Dr. Ginsberg has been active as an invited speaker at many national and regional quality meetings including the Creating a Culture of Quality Conference; QualityNet: The CMS Healthcare Quality Conference; the annual meeting of ESRD Network of the Upper Midwest; the annual meeting of the Network of New England and the New England Regional Meeting of the American Nephrology Nurses Association.
In addition, Dr. Ginsberg has been a part of the Yale Health System Clinical Decision Support Steering Committee and Chief Medical Information Officer for Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, CT.
Dr. Ginsberg has also been active in organized medicine with leadership roles in the New London County Medical Association and the Connecticut State Medical Association.
