Ayal Piyathilaka

Ayal Piyathilaka is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in environmental services and waste management. Currently serving as the Plastic Reduction Team Lead Consultant for RTI International under the USAID Ocean Plastics Reduction Activity, Ayal works to minimize ocean plastic pollution in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Previously, Ayal held the position of Technical & Business Development Director at INOVA environment, specializing in industrial research and waste management services. With a background that includes roles such as Business Development Advisor for Tetra Tech’s USAID Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program, Technical Manager at INSEE Cement, and Technical Manager at Geocycle, Ayal has demonstrated expertise in operational planning, project management, and innovation in waste management practices. Ayal's career began at Holcim, where contributions included quality assurance and chemist roles. Ayal holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and an MBA from the Open University of Sri Lanka.
