Tom Frieden

President and Chief Executive Officer at Resolve To Save Lives

Tom Frieden has an extensive work experience in the field of public health and health policy. Tom served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Resolve To Save Lives, a position they started in September 2017. Prior to this role, Frieden was the Director of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2009 to 2017. Tom also served as the Health Commissioner for the city of New York from 2002 to 2009. Frieden's work experience also includes being a Senior Fellow for Global Health at the Council on Foreign Relations since June 2019. Earlier in their career, they held various positions at the Bloomberg Philanthropies, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, World Health Organization, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, The World Bank, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Frieden's expertise in public health and their leadership in improving health both nationally and globally are well recognized.

Tom Frieden completed their Bachelor's degree at Oberlin College from 1978 to 1982. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, which they completed from 1982 to 1986. In 1986, they obtained their New York States Medical License from the New York State Education Department. Tom then pursued a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, which they completed from 1985 to 1986. Subsequently, from 1989 to 1990, they engaged in a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Yale University. As for additional certifications, Tom obtained Diplomate status from the National Board of Medical Examiners in 1987.
