Carl Thong

Co-Founder & Board Member at Re:start Banking

Carl Thong has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Carl began their career as an Entrepreneur at Sunstone Group in 1997. In 2004, they became the Group Managing Director at momenta Group, a leadership and sales training company. In 2017, they co-founded and served as the Chairman of BankingON, where they focused on perfecting the banking experience. In 2021, they co-founded and became a Board Member of Re:start Banking, a fintech company providing emergency savings solutions. Carl also served as the Managing Director of Dytan Health On-Line Sdn Bhd, a telemedicine and outsourcing solutions company for medical evidence. Currently, they are a Venture Partner at Eagle Venture Fund, where they invest in early-stage companies. Additionally, they are an Adjunct Professor at Singapore Management University and a Shareholder & Advisor at The Mandala Group. Carl has also held leadership positions at Dining Butler and teachnlearn, working on digital tools for F&B and online tutoring respectively.

Carl Thong obtained a High School Diploma from Jakarta International School in 1986. Carl then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a minor in Economics from Lewis & Clark College from 1986 to 1989. In 1990, they received a Postgraduate Certificate in International Marketing from Portland State University. Later, Carl completed their Master of Arts degree in Theology/Theological Studies at the University of Northwestern - St. Paul from 2015 to 2016. Subsequently, from 2016 to 2021, they earned a Doctorate degree in Strategic Leadership from Corban University. In addition to their formal education, Carl also obtained an Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment from Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) in April 2019.
