James Tsai is an advisor at Retina Technologies. James was previously the Robert R. Young Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale University School of Medicine from October 2006 to August 2014. James was also the Chief of Ophthalmology at Yale-New Haven Hospital from 2006-2014. Prior to that, they were an Associate Professor and Director of the Glaucoma Division at Columbia University Irving Medical Center - New York Presbyterian from July 2001 to September 2006. James began their career as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from July 1995 to June 2001, where they served as the Ophthalmology Residency Program Director from 1999-2001.

James Tsai received their Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management. James then did a Fellowship in Glaucoma (Clinical/Research) at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and the Institute of Ophthalmology (University of London). After that, they did a Fellowship in Glaucoma (Clinical) at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine / Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. James then did a Residency in Ophthalmology at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center / Doheny Eye Institute. After that, they did an Internship in Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. James then received their M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine. Finally, they received their Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College and their Diploma with High Honors from Phillips Exeter Academy.
