Esther Derby

Advisor at Retrium

Esther Derby is an advisor at Retrium and has been influential in the software development community for many years. Esther was a member of the board at Agile Alliance from 2007 to 2013, during which time they set policy and influenced the conversation around creating a more effective, humane, and sustainable way to develop software. Esther was also the speaker chair at PNSQC from 2006 to 2008.

From 2001 to 2003, Esther was the technical editor at SQE, where they found people within interesting things to say about all aspects of software development and testing. Esther acted as development editor for authors and influenced the conversation that was happening about the field. In 2000, they co-created the AYE Conference, which changed conferences by bringing experiential learning to a conference setting.

Esther has also been an organizer for the Retrospective Facilitators Gathering from 1999 to 2010, and the president of esther derby associates, inc. since 1993.

Esther Derby has an MA in Organizational Leadership from St. Catherine University and a BA from the University of Minnesota.
