Kyle Lopez

Cinematic Layout Artist at Retro Studios

Kyle Lopez has a strong background in the animation industry, with experience in various companies and roles. Kyle started their career as a Previs Shot Creator at The Third Floor, Inc. in 2016, where they staged cinematography in CG and animated cameras, characters, crowds, and FX using in-house tools and libraries for projects like Spider-Man: Homecoming. Kyle then worked as a Previs Artist at HALON Entertainment, where they visualized and planned complex, live-action sequences for Pacific Rim: Uprising. In 2017, Kyle joined Cinesite as a Layout Artist, performing various tasks such as set dressing, final layout, rough layout, and quality control, and successfully pitched alternative shots to the director for The Star. Kyle also reformatted client previs to Cinesite's Maya pipeline and assets.

From 2017 to 2019, Kyle worked at Lightstorm Entertainment as a Sequence Artist for the Avatar sequels. In this role, they oversaw complex sequences, managed multiple artists, filled in for absent supervisors on stage, and provided live animation support on mocap stages. Kyle successfully presented their work to the director and CG supervisor.

Continuing their career, Kyle joined Blur Studio in 2019 as a Layout Animator, and later worked as a Previs Artist for Mold3D, LLC in 2020. Kyle then returned to The Third Floor, Inc. as a Previs & Postvis Artist, where they contributed to various projects, including a TBA immersive project, by categorizing motions for mocap libraries, staging previs in a unique format and aspect ratio, and assisting new hires with pipeline workflow.

In 2022, Kyle joined Marvel Studios as a Previs Artist and contributed to projects until early 2023. Currently, they are employed as a Cinematic Layout Artist at Retro Studios starting from March 2023. Overall, Kyle Lopez has a diverse range of experience in previs, layout, animation, and motion graphics, making him a valuable asset in the animation industry.

Kyle Lopez attended Columbia College Chicago from 2009 to 2011, where they studied Computer Animation. Following this, they enrolled in Ringling College of Art and Design from 2012 to 2016, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Computer Animation.
