Kristy Lawton has a diverse professional background, starting with their experience as a Veterinary Assistant at Meiners Veterinary Services in 2000. Kristy then moved on to work as an Animal Care Technician at the Willamette Humane Society in 2002, and an English as a Second Language Teacher at Sato Eikaiwa in 2007. In 2003, they became a Research Assistant at the University of Oregon, and then went on to pursue their PhD at Cornell University in 2008. From 2013 to 2017, they were a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Reed College, before taking a position as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Washington State University Vancouver in 2017. Finally, in 2018, they became the Chief Science Officer for the Portland-based biotech startup Rewire Neuro, Inc, where they have played pivotal roles in product development and testing, high-level customer technical support, sales and marketing, grant writing, and fostering B2B relationships.

Kristy Lawton received their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Neurobiology and Behavior from Cornell University in 2013. Kristy earned their Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from the University of Oregon in 2006. Kristy also attended Stayton High School from 1998 to 2002.
