Gudrun Erla Jonsdottir, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Beginning in 1999, they worked in the finance department of Karl K. Karlsson ltd. After that, they joined North Sailing ltd. in 2004, where they worked in the marketing department. In 2006, they joined KB banki in the sales and marketing department. In the year 2000, while studying, they also worked in Lysi ltd.'s export department. In 2007, they became the office manager for Orkuveita Húsavíkur ehf. and later became the managing director of Orkuveita Húsavíkur ohf. in 2008. In 2012, they became a board member and later the vice chairman of the board at Samorka. From 2015 to the present, they have been the chief strategy officer at Orkuveita Reykjavíkur and also serves as the chairman of the board at Veitur ohf. Throughout their career, Gudrun has held various leadership and consultative roles, demonstrating their expertise in strategy development, communication, and execution.

Gudrun Erla Jonsdottir obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Tourism and Business from Háskóli Íslands, where they studied from 2001 to 2004. Gudrun Erla then pursued their Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Marketing and international business, also at Háskóli Íslands, from 2005 to 2006. During the same period, Gudrun Erla Jonsdottir participated in a student exchange program at Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark, specializing in Cand.Merc.international Markedsføring.

Additionally, in 2003, Gudrun Erla Jonsdottir engaged in a student exchange program at San Diego State University, focusing on Marketing within their B.Sc. studies. Finally, they are currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Háskóli Íslands, which they began in 2018 and is expected to complete in 2022. Gudrun Erla'sPh.D. research is centered around the Corporate Governance and Strategic Role of Boards of Directors.
