Zernil Lurthanathan

Zernil Lurthanathan has extensive experience in the field of risk strategy, transformation, and data analytics. They currently hold the position of Senior Vice President, Head of Risk Strategy, Transformation & Enterprise Risk Analytics at RHB Banking Group, where they lead risk strategy and transformation efforts, with a focus on driving desired behaviors through data-driven insights. Additionally, they serve as the Project Director for the Group Climate Action Programme.

Prior to their current role, Zernil worked at CIMB as the Director, Group Risk, Business Management, where they successfully managed the implementation of risk-based machine learning models and collaborated with business stakeholders to define loan loss provision targets.

Furthermore, Zernil held the position of VP, Group Risk, Business Management at CIMB, where they led strategic regional projects for Group Risk, such as implementing big data analytics projects and conducting regional townhalls.

Before joining CIMB, Zernil worked at Bursa Malaysia as the Head, VP, Data Analytics, where they provided data analytics solutions, identified growth opportunities, and achieved set objectives through collaboration with multiple stakeholders.

They also served as the Head, VP, Regulatory Strategy at Bursa Malaysia, where they developed and implemented regulatory strategies.

Prior to their time at Bursa Malaysia, Zernil worked at Bank Negara Malaysia as a Senior Executive, gaining extensive training and exposure in risk management and prudential policy. In this role, they led various projects, developed long-term policies for the industry, and performed macroeconomic analysis.

They also have practical training experience at Catalyze Ltd, where they conducted a market penetration strategy for Small and Medium Enterprises using Decision Sciences tools as part of their practical experience at the London School of Economics (LSE).

Zernil's early career included a role as a Management Trainee at Great Eastern Life Assurance, where they assisted in financial risk analysis and strategic planning.

Zernil Lurthanathan holds a BSc (Hons) in Decision Sciences from Universiti Utara Malaysia, which was completed from 2003 to 2005. In 2006 to 2007, Zernil attended The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) where they obtained an MSc in Decision Sciences with a focus on Bayesian Statistics and Applied Decision Sciences. In 2018 to 2019, Zernil completed the HBS Online Certification (CORE) from Harvard Business School Online, studying Financial Accounting, Business Analytics, and Economics for Managers.
