Heather Phelps has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Heather is currently serving as the Post Commander at Forney Memorial VFW Post 9180, where they foster camaraderie among U.S. veterans and serves their community. Prior to this, Heather held the position of Information Technology Security Leader at Ribbon Communications. Before that, they worked at Ericsson as the Director of IT/Information Security & Privacy, Americas, where they led risk assessments and managed the Security & Risk Governance Program. Heather also worked as a Consultant at Walgreens Boots Alliance, where they assisted in the development of IT risk and compliance-related policies. Earlier in their career, they served as the Senior Cyber Security Auditor at Fortune Brands Home & Security, Analyst at Grainger, and Senior Systems Integrator & Security Consultant at TEKsystems. Heather's extensive background also includes managerial roles in the United States Navy, where they managed operations and training and served as an Aviation Warfare Avionics Technician.
Heather Phelps completed their education at Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University from 2012 to 2013, earning a Masters of Information Systems Management degree with a focus on Computer and Information Systems Security/Information Assurance. Prior to that, from 2011 to 2012, they obtained a Bachelors of Science in Technical Management degree from DeVry University, specializing in Electrical Engineering Technologies. In addition to their formal education, Heather has obtained several certifications, including Leading for Impact Program 2020-2021 from Ericsson, Payment Card Industry Professional (PCIP) from PCI Security Standards Council in 2018, PCI - ISA from PCI Security Standards Council in 2018, Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM) from ISACA in 2017, ITIL Foundations from PEOPLECERT in 2016, and Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA) from ISACA in 2015.
