Emily van Engel

Teaching Artist at Richmond Art Center

Emily Van Engel is an accomplished artist and educator with extensive experience in teaching and curriculum development. Currently serving as a Teaching Artist at the Richmond Art Center since September 2015, Emily designs and facilitates studio painting courses while curating student artwork for community exhibitions. Additionally, Emily has maintained a self-employed artist portfolio since 1979. Previous roles include instructing art for children and adults at The Art Room, working as a planner for the Teton County Housing Authority where public speaking and graphic design skills were employed, and serving as Communications Director for the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance. Emily holds a Master of Fine Arts in Pictorial Art from San Jose State University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from California College of the Arts, and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and French Studies from Wesleyan University.

Richmond Art Center

The Richmond Art Center is the largest visual arts center in the East Bay, dedicated to bringing art to young and old alike who reflect the diverse richness of our community. We're is a visual arts showcase and hands-on learning center that gives wide-ranging audiences the opportunity to create, see and learn about art. Every year, we serve more than 1,800 students through classes and programs taught by professional artists, both onsite at the Center and offsite at local schools, studios and community centers. Our four galleries allow us to mount rotating exhibitions that display the works of emerging and established Bay Area artists. Artists such as Richard Diebenkorn, Jasper Johns, Jay DeFeo, Wanxin Zhang, Hung Liu, Ed Rossbach and Peter Voulkos have been showcased here.
