Shannon Abac

Teaching Artist at Richmond Art Center

Shannon Abac is an accomplished ceramics artist and educator with extensive experience in teaching and materials management. As the owner of Pen + Ink Pottery and an instructor at Clay By The Bay San Francisco, Shannon actively engages in curriculum development and offers advanced courses while assisting students with their creative processes. As a teaching artist at Richmond Art Center, Shannon develops handbuilding courses and teaches various techniques, building on previous experience as a studio technician and youth instructor at Mill Valley Potter's Studio. Academic contributions include teaching Ceramics 1 at San Francisco State University, complemented by a background in advising graduate students at the Academy of Art University. Shannon holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Ceramics from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Ceramics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Richmond Art Center

The Richmond Art Center is the largest visual arts center in the East Bay, dedicated to bringing art to young and old alike who reflect the diverse richness of our community. We're is a visual arts showcase and hands-on learning center that gives wide-ranging audiences the opportunity to create, see and learn about art. Every year, we serve more than 1,800 students through classes and programs taught by professional artists, both onsite at the Center and offsite at local schools, studios and community centers. Our four galleries allow us to mount rotating exhibitions that display the works of emerging and established Bay Area artists. Artists such as Richard Diebenkorn, Jasper Johns, Jay DeFeo, Wanxin Zhang, Hung Liu, Ed Rossbach and Peter Voulkos have been showcased here.
