Duane Schielke

Duane Schielke is the Executive Vice President of Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State (CP of NYS). Mr. Schielke oversees development and expansion of innovative health programs and services and new low income housing development related to the operations of the Metropolitan New York Services.

After serving combat duty as a U. S. Army Field Artillery Section Chief in South Vietnam, in 1973 Schielke started working as a direct care counselor in one of the first upstate residences for people with disabilities while studying at SUNY Buffalo. After graduation, he worked his way up in this organization to the position of Executive Director, CEO of United Cerebral Palsy Association of WNY in 1981, now known as Aspire of Western New York. In 1988 he was appointed to the Associate Executive Director position, later changed to Executive Vice President with Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State located in NYC.

Mr. Schielke holds an Associate Degree from Niagara Community College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Master of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies - Social Psychology and Community Mental Health Planning from SUNY at Buffalo.

In recognition of Mr. Schielke's expertise, he has served on numerous NYS government task forces, councils and commissions of the NYS Department of Health, NYS Developmental Disabilities Planning Council and NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. Commendations include the Inaugural Niagara County Community College Distinguished Alumni Award (1988) and CP of NYS's Daniel Weider Award for Professional Leadership (1995). He is the co-author of "The Triple Stress Jeopardy of Agent Orange Class Members" in The Legacy of Vietnam and Their Families, Survivors of War: Catalysts for Change, 1995.
