The Honorable Robert A. Spolzino has been an attorney for 30 years, currently senior appellate counsel and chair of the Municipal/Local Government. Robert has practiced at the national law firm Wilson Elser and is currently with Spolzino Smith Buss & Jacobs, LLP. He assists a large and loyal client base with appellate matters, municipal commercial and environmental litigation, land use and environmental regulatory matters, and matrimonial and family law disputes.
He has been serving as Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, including five years as a Justice of the Appellate Division, the state’s intermediate appellate court. He has decided approximately 5,000 appeals and 10,000 appellate motions and wrote major opinions across a broad spectrum of areas. Several of his dissents led to reversals by the Court of Appeals, New York’s highest court. As a trial judge, he spent two-and-a-half years adjudicating matrimonial and family law disputes.
Outside of his law firm practice, Robert has taught environmental law as an adjunct professor and lectures regularly to bar associations and industry groups. He is a member of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board and the Executive Committee of the Municipal Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Robert serves on the boards of trustees of Northern Westchester Hospital, the Northwell Health System, and Richmond Community Services.
