Desalegn Mekonen

Acting Country Director, Ethiopia at Right To Play

Desalegn Mekonen, is the Acting Country Director of Right to Play Ethiopia. He has over 17 years of experience in both non-governmental and governmental organizations.

Prior to joining Right to Play, he served as National Program Manager/Advisor for SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia from 2015-2019. He served as Child Protection/OVC Program Manager at Save the Children Denmark and Save the Children International from 2010-2015. He also served as Education Officer and Area Coordinator for World Learning Ethiopia Education Projects from 2007-2010.

He has a Masters of Arts Degree in Developmental Psychology and Degree in Educational Psychology from Addis Ababa University. He also attended a one and half year public health courses from Alkan University College in Ethiopia. Desalegn has over 14 years of experience in program management for non-governmental international organizations in the areas of education, health, child protection and livelihood. He has sound experience in both direct program implementation and partners’ management. He likes using his program management and planning experiences to strengthen quality program implementation so that they are better situated to achieve the envisaged results and organizational mission.
