Jiayun Chen (Maxine)

Jiayun (Maxine) Chen is a skilled Manufacturing Engineer at RIVANNA since June 2023, with a strong background in biomedical engineering. Prior experience includes a role as a Research Assistant at Duke BIOS Laboratory, where Jiayun led the design and prototyping of an enclosure for a low-cost OCT system, achieving a functional prototype in eight weeks. As a Duke Design Health Program Fellow, Jiayun contributed to the development of a device for ECMO procedures, performing iterative testing and risk analysis. An internship at Volk Optical Inc. led to a 35% improvement in retinal camera performance through prototype development and testing. Earlier experience includes an R&D Test Intern position at Jiangsu Yuyue Medical Equipment & Supply Co., Ltd., and research assistance at Dr. Hongtao Xu's Lab, supporting patent applications.
