Johannes ('Hans') Brug currently serves as the Director General at RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, focusing on the prevention and control of infectious diseases, public health, consumer safety, and environmental quality. Since 2020, Brug has chaired meetings of Dutch National 'knowledge' institutes and also holds the position of Chair of the supervisory board at Utrechts Landschap. Additionally, Brug is a Professor of Health Behavior at the University of Amsterdam, where prior roles included Dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Past experience includes chairing the Health Committee at OECD, serving on various supervisory boards, and holding key leadership roles at VU University Medical Center, including Dean and Director of the EMGO Institute for Health & Care Research. Brug obtained a PhD in Health Sciences from Maastricht University and Master's degrees in Human Nutrition and Epidemiology from Wageningen University & Research.
