Maikel de Potter has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Maikel began their career at Petromation as a Commercial/Scientific Co-worker, where they were responsible for market introduction and sales of a new toxicity test system. Maikel then moved on to DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability, where they held various roles including International Sales and Contract Manager, Team Manager/Contract Manager, and Team Manager/Change Manager. At DNV KEMA, they were responsible for managing teams, conducting sales, and driving innovation and technology. Following this, Maikel worked as a Freelance Business Scan Consultant and Chairman & Trainer at TalentPlus. Maikel also worked as a Sound Pioneer at Advanced HomeCinemaSound, specializing in immersive sound. Maikel then joined DePotterConsultancy as a Business Strategist. Before their current role, they worked at Wageningen University & Research as the Team Leader of Environmental Risk Assessment, where they managed a team, led acquisition strategies, and implemented innovative concepts. Finally, Maikel is currently the Head of Research Department Environmental Effects of Substances & Products at RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, where they provide advice and support on risk management and promotes the health and safety of people and the environment.

Maikel de Potter completed their high school education at Mencia de Mendoza Lyceum between 1975 and 1981, obtaining a high school diploma in pre-university education. From 1981 to 1988, they attended Wageningen University & Research, where they earned a Master's degree in Environmental Science/Ecotoxicology, focusing on chemistry and biology. Following their Master's degree, from 1992 to 2013, they pursued a Mini MBA degree in various fields at Post University.
