Established in 1913, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has jurisdiction of over 2,700 miles of roads and maintains an additional 230 miles or state highways. We maintain the largest county road system in Michigan. In addition to roads, we also maintain over 1,500 traffic signals throughout Oakland County. Oakland County has the lowest traffic-fatality rate in Michigan and are among the lowest in the world for a community of its size and population due to safety improvements on many roads. We employ state-of-the-art computer and communication technologies to improve traffic flow, decrease travel time, enhance safety and reduce vehicle tailpipe emissions that are characteristics of stop-and-go driving.
