Ottilie Bälz has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple organizations. Ottilie started their career in 1998 at the Goethe-Institut e.V. as a Project Manager, where they worked until 2001. In 2002, they held various roles, including Public Relations Manager at Deutsch-Russisches Forum e.V., Research Fellowship at ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), and Program Officer/Program Director at Robert Bosch Stiftung. From 2004 to 2005, they served as a Delegate to the Directorate-General for Culture and Education at the Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany. At Robert Bosch Stiftung, they further held positions such as Head of Section/Deputy Head of Department, Society and Culture from 2012 to 2015, Senior Vice President Society from 2015 to 2019, and currently holds the position of Senior Vice President Global Issues.

Ottilie Bälz began their education at Ludwig Uhland Gymnasium Tübingen, where they obtained their Abitur degree from 1982 to 1991. Ottilie then pursued their higher education at the University of Cologne from 1992 to 1998, earning a Magister Artium degree in Slavonic and German Philology, as well as Central and Eastern European History. In 1994 and 1995, they expanded their knowledge by studying Russian Language and Literature at the Literature Institute named after A.M. Gorky.
