Perisa Ashar

Robertson Scholar at Robertson Scholars

Perisa Ashar is currently engaged in multiple roles within the fields of electrical engineering and biomedical research, including internships at Gilero and Medtronic, focusing on integrating software and hardware for advanced medical devices. As a BME Design Fellow at Duke University Pratt School of Engineering, Perisa has contributed to projects that prepare students for careers in MedTech and investigated wearable sensor technologies for heart disease detection. Additional involvement includes being an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the BIG Ideas Lab, serving as a MUSER Ambassador, and participating in the Bass Connections initiative addressing LGBTQ+ inclusivity in nursing care. Perisa co-founded STEMinate, a nonprofit aimed at increasing STEM accessibility, and has held leadership positions in various educational programs, including 4H and the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program. Education includes a dual major in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, complemented by earlier achievements in high school and STEM research initiatives.
